It can be tempting to just jump on a bike and ride, but the chances are, the only thing you're going to end up doing is a crashing your bike and hurting your pride. Don't be one of those idiots that thinks riding a motorcycle is easy, it isn't. It's challenging, fun, cool and a whole lot of other stuff but it isn't easy and without the proper training it isn't safe. You'll be a much better rider if you attend a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class. Here are a few reasons to attend:
They Really Teach You How To Ride
This isn't some class where all you do is sit at a desk. Sure, there's some of that, but the majority of your time will be spent on a bike actually riding and learning in a hands-on approach. This is good for two reasons: 1) it's a heck of a lot more fun, 2) you'll really know what you're doing when you actually go out on your bike to ride.
In all states (unless I'm mistaken), insurance companies offer cheaper rates to riders who have gone through a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class. This can make the overall cost of riding and owning a motorcycle much less burden some (it's already cheaper than owing a car).
You'll Meet Other Riders
Most people who ride motorcycles are a lot of fun to hang out with, and taking a motorcycle riding course is a way to meet a lot of people with a similar interest that are close to your skill level. While riding with people who are really experienced will ultimately help you become a better rider, it's nice to have a friend or two who is on the same level as you.
It's Easier to Get Your Motorcycle License
Taking a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class usually reduces the amount of things you have to do to get your motorcycle endorsement on your license. While you need to check your state's laws, taking a riding class is usually an easier path to getting legal to ride. Most of the time, upon completion of the course, you won't have to take the riding portion of your motorcycle test because a riding test is already performed at the end of your course.
