Royal Enfield has been an important name in motorcycling for about a century. The brand name was licensed in 1890 and the motorcycle company that came to be produced some very important bikes over the years. Most recently the company has continued to make it's lovable classic-looking motorcycles including the Bullet.
Still, no company can survive without evolving and that's exactly what the Himalayan is. It's a motorcycle that takes what Royal Enfield has done for decades so well and moves it forward to create a seriously cool and tough adventure bike. This bike takes on other adventure bikes and dual sport models from Honda, Kawasaki and several others.
The Himalayan is a rugged bike built for adventuring basically anywhere it has a modern look that still manages to look like a classic Royal Enfield, an impressive balance.
The bike utilizes a single-cylinder 4-stroke air-cooled 411cc engine that's fuel injected. The five speed gearbox moves the engines power to the wheel. It's a simple setup and one that I think is really smart. The rest of the bike, too, utilizes a similar design, one that puts practicality and function first.
The bike's relatively low power and light weight (421 lbs) means that it wouldn't be a terrible bike for a beginner rider. Also, it's just darn cool. Cool enough that even a seasoned rider would feel okay on one.
I'm not saying I want to ride cross country on this thing, but I think it's a cool bike worth considering and paying attention to. What about you? Leave a comment below.
